What is chemical equation balancing?

Equation balancer

When elements or compounds react to produce different compounds or element in a different valence state, there is said to be a Chemical Reaction. One needs to know what is produced in this Chemical Reaction so that a Chemical Equation may be written down. It is necessary to know the resulting reactant products so they may be written as the reaction results.

So the reactants are added together on the left side of the equation and the products are written on the right. One then inspects the elements to be sure they are the same numbers on both sides or makes them that way. The same is true with the electrons of each element. REDOX reactions involve the loss and gain of electrons of some elements and these must balance (be the same ) on both sides of the equations.

That is a bit oversimplified but a general idea of balancing chemical equations.
